About us

Matthias Umbreit passed a professional training as an Electric Mechanist and gained practical experience at a shipyard. He studied electrotechnics and graduated with a Diplom-Engineer degree. Subsequently he worked as a scientific assistant and received his doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) in 1989. 

From 1991 until 2022 Matthias Umbreit worked for the Berufsgenossenschaft Holz und Metall Mainz which is occupational health and safety insurance. He served in a number of different positions. Among others head of Test and Certification Body and  head of the Work Area Robotics.

Matthias Umbreit was head of several research projects of Berufsgenossenschaft regarding biomechanical limits in human-robot collaboration. The results of this research have been taken over by international standardization.

Matthias Umbreit is a member of national and international standardization working groups, among others ISO TC 299 „Robotics “. From 2001 until 2011 Matthias Umbreit served as a CEN Consultant on behalf of the European Union Commission. Matthias Umbreit is vice chairman of the standardization comitee DIN-NA-060-38-01-01-AK Safety of Industrial Robotics.
